I love to incorporate a real houseplant in my home wherever I can, but sometimes the conditions just aren’t ideal for a living houseplant! So instead, I have several fake houseplants placed strategically throughout my home. And honestly, they are so beautiful that you wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Here are my best tips to create fake houseplants that look real.
Place Them In Realistic Locations
My first tip is to place your fake houseplants in locations that look realistic to their characteristics. For example, cactus plants need sun, so placing it in a dark corner of your basement is a way to make it look instantly fake. Place your fake houseplants in locations that seem realistic to your plants. However, you can still find fake houseplants that would look great in dark locations, just be mindful of your pairings. This is one of the most important tips to create fake houseplants that look real.
Keep Them Dust Free
The thing that gives away many fake plants is dust! To keep your fake houseplants looking real, keep them dust-free and clean. I run a damp cloth over my fake plants at least once weekly and I have noticed that it really helps keep the dust in check on my plants.
Spend Money On Quality
Though it might be tempting to buy a ton of the cheaper greener, splurging on fake houseplants is a way to guarantee that they look real. Don’t be afraid to buy top-of-the-line items, I like to get mine from World Market or Home Goods. I’ve never bought an ugly houseplant from one of those places. And I really recommend that your splurge if you go for the fake stuff. Since it can’t die, what’s wrong with spending a little extra money on it anyway!
Pick Plants That Look Imperfect
One of the most immediate giveaways to a fake houseplant is one that looks too perfect. No matter where you purchase your plant from, some are bound to have some kind of imperfection. Make sure that you pick out fake plants that have the same kind of imperfections. This is seriously one of the easiest ways to make fake plants look real! Learn how to plant your houseplants here.
