If you’re lucky enough to be the owner of a southern facing window, these full sun houseplants are just the thing for you. All of the plants on this list are easy enough for beginners to grow, and just require a nice spot in front of a bright, sunny window. Here are a few of my favorite full sun houseplants for beginners.

Aloe Vera

Not only will Aloe Vera tolerate full sun, but they LOVE heat, too. Stick this plant in your sunniest window and ensure that it has well-draining soil. The plant loves to be kept dry and will not tolerate any kind of standing water. Use an organic potting mix and water only when the first few inches of soil feel dry. Harvest your leaves as soon as they are old enough! Aloe is one of the easiest to care for full sun houseplants on this list.

Ponytail Palm

Ponytail Palms can be a bit finicky if the humidity levels in your home are not correct. But with the help of a humidifier, they’re pretty easy to grow in any environment. This plant loves southern-facing windows and doesn’t need much water to thrive. So long as you keep humidity levels up, this plant needs much care other than the occasional watering. Again, be careful not to overwater as this might be root rot.

Jade

Jade was one of the first plants I brought home, and my cute little 6inch plant has grown into a huge tree! My Jade plant receives 8 hours of sunlight every day, and I water once every two weeks. Water only when the top two inches of soil looks dry or the leaves on the plant look leathery. Under the right conditions, Jade plants can even bloom! This is one of my favorite full sun houseplants.

Money Tree

The money tree plant is another that will need plenty of humidity to look it’s best. Place directly in front of any window, and place a humidifier nearby. This plant prefers sandy soil, and near drought-like conditions. This is one of those plants that you can neglect for months at a time.

Spider Plant

Spider Plants were all of the rage back into the ’70s and my grandmother has one that she has been able to keep alive since then! Stick these plants in a corner of your house that gets a few hours of indirect sunlight and allow plants to fully dry out in between waterings.
