Honestly, I love houseplants and I’d like to have at least two in every room of my house, even the bathroom! Unfortunately, bathrooms typically are one of the rooms with the lowest light in your home, so it can be hard to find plants that fit that environment. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there! These are the best houseplants for the bathroom! A lot of them are pretty low maintenance, too.
Snake Plant
Also called mother-in-laws tongue, the Snake Plant thrives in conditions of low light. Of course, it will need a few hours of indirect sunlight every day, but that’s about all it requires. In fact, it doesn’t need much water, either. Snake plants thrive when neglected. During the winter, I only water them once monthly!
ZZ Plant
One of my absolute favorite low light houseplants, the ZZ Plant is one of the most beautiful plants on this list. The waxy, shiny leaves and long stems look beautiful in any kind of home decor. They will yellow when receiving too much sunlight and often can survive off the fluorescent lights of a windowless bathroom. Of course, take it out to indirect light every so often, but this plant is seriously low maintenance! ZZ Plants also like soil as dry as it can get. Seriously. I have one by my bedside (they even purify the air!) and I only water it every three weeks in the summertime. It’s rewarded me with four new shoots this season already.
Bromeliads
Bromeliad plants are fun and unique houseplants! I just love the look of them. Bromeliads will love the humidity of your bathroom and will reward you with lush, green leaves. Though they’ll need a bit more light than the ZZ Plant, they can survive off of a few hours of indirect light every day. You’ll love how this looks in your bathroom. Keep soil moist, but make sure the roots at the bottom are not soggy.
Peace Lillies
Peace Lilly plants are seriously stunning and they actually do better in darker, humid conditions like the bathroom. Keep them watered (they droop horribly when they are even the slightest bit thirsty!) but that’s about all they will need. If you notice that your plant isn’t flowering, it might need just a bit more light every day.
Crotons
Croton plants LOVE humid conditions and indirect light, making them perfect for a bathroom with a small window. These beautiful plants look add a pop of color where it is least expected. Keep soil moist, but make sure it is not sitting in soggy soil as this could result in root rot. Learn how to treat root rot here.
