Christmas time is rapidly approaching, and if you plan on celebrating the holidays with a live Christmas tree, there are a few things that you should know about its care. These live Christmas tree care tips will help keep your Christmas tree alive and thriving throughout the holidays.
Learn Which Christmas Trees Thrive In Your Area
The number one most important thing for any homeowner to consider when purchasing a tree is whether or not it naturally thrives in a climate like yours. Different pine trees will do better in different areas of the country. This guide will help you determine your own climate zone. Typically, if you purchase your live Christmas tree from a local grower, they will feature varieties of plants that do well in your area. This is important, so its best not to overlook it.
Don’t Repot Too Soon
If your Christmas tree came in a nursery container, its best not to repot right away. Give your Christmas tree a few weeks to get used to its new surroundings before repotting it. This will save tons of needles dropped, trust me!
Climiatization Is Important
Before bringing your live Christmas tree indoors (where it is hot and dry) make sure that you climatize it. Upon bringing the tree home from the lot, keep it in your garage for a week or two. The garage will be just cold enough that it allows your tree to make a seamless transition into your home. I’ve even known people in warmer climates that put their Christmas tree under a canopy or something similar and its worked wonders for them.
Keep It Well Watered
Pine trees displayed indoors need water, and this is one of my crucial live Christmas tree care tips. And lots of it. Make sure that you top off your tree holder every day with a little bit of water to make sure that your tree is completely healthy. It will need more water to make up for the dry air indoors, and just so long as you can provide that, you will have a gorgeous Christmas tree for weeks to come. Now, if only I could figure out how to keep my dog from drinking the water!
