I know that I’m not the only one who thinks that decorating with live greenery around the holidays is just the best thing ever. Not only does live greenery smell INCREDIBLE, but I think it just looks so much better than anything artificial ever does. While live wreaths and garlands look amazing around the holidays, it can be tricky to keep your live greenery looking as good as it does on day one at the end of the month.
Fortunately, these wreath care tips and tricks (tried by yours truly!) will help keep your greenery looking incredible ALL month long so that you can enjoy lush greenery in your holiday photos on Christmas Day.
Live Wreath Care Tips: Mist At Least Once Daily
One of the main reasons live greenery dies off before you’d like it to is because it’s dried out. And since you can’t water a wreath or a garland like you would a normal house plant, misting is the way to go! Simply fill a spray bottle with room temperature water and cover your wreath and garlands. Spray thoroughly (not so much that water is dripping off your wreath, but enough so that it hydrates the area) at least twice daily. This alone will keep your live greenery alive weeks longer than it normally would!
Live Wreath Care Tips: Keep In A Cool Area
Since pine trees and most of what holiday greenery is made up of is used to a chilly environment, keep your live wreaths and garlands in a cool environment. While it might be tempting to hang your live garland above a fireplace, this is actually the worst place for a live garland as the heat will dry it out in no time stat. Wreaths on your front porch will LOVE the cool outside air, but keep live garlands near a drafty part of your house to keep them looking their best.
Regardless of it’s a wreath or a garland, if you are planning on bringing it indoors, keep it outside in a cool garage for 28 hours before bringing it in. This will allow the greenery to slowly acclimate.
Live Wreath Care Tips: Use An Anti-Transpirant Spray
This Anti-Transpirant spray from Amazon will lock moisture into the leaves of your live greenery. Cover leaves or needles thoroughly before bringing them inside to arrange or display. The spray creates a coating so that the plant doesn’t lose moisture from evaporation–continue to mist with water to keep up with care!
Live Wreath Care Tips: Buy As Fresh As You Possibly Can
Of course, if you plan on displaying your greenery all month long, it’s best to buy as fresh as possible. Instead of buying from a big box store, opt for a local farm or garden that cuts/arrange things made to order. These are often a few dollars more expensive, but I’ve noticed that they last WEEKS longer than the Wal Mart stuff!
