I love to make my own plant food whenever possible–not only is it a great way to reuse and repurpose food scraps, but you can often create an incredible plant food recipe using things like eggshells and banana peels at home! If you’re eager to create your own three-ingredient plant food recipe at home, just follow my recipe below. While the plant food recipe will keep for weeks, I find it best to use everything I have made in one sitting (I have over 50 plants, so usually one batch of these covers all of my plants!). Keep reading below to learn how to make your own three-ingredient plant food!
DIY three-ingredient plant food recipe
Here’s what you need to make your own three-ingredient plant food recipe:
-A spray bottle or other container to put your mixture in
-Eggshells (I usually crumple 3 large shells)
-Coffee Grounds
-Banana Peels (I like to use two)
-Water (technically this is a fourth ingredient but I really don’t count it much!)
Step One: Fill your spray bottle or another container about 1/3-1/2 way up with water. Take care to ensure that the water is completely clean.
Step Two: Finely crush up your eggshells so that they are in a fine powder. Grind up your coffee grounds as well and cut up your banana peels finely. Add all of these ingredients directly to the jar of clean water.
Step Three: Fill the rest of the way up with water, and shake the mixture heavily every day for a week. The water should begin to turn a brownish-green color-this means it’s almost time to use.
Step Four: After you have let your mixture sit for at least a week, strain out any large pieces of banana, coffee ground, or eggshells by using a strainer. Next, pour the mixture directly into the soil of your plants in need!
Pretty great recipe right?
