The Pilea plant was one of the hottest plants of 2018, and I’m still obsessed with it even this late into 2019! I’ve had my Pilea for a year and a half now and it’s still putting out new leaves. I truly can’t believe how fast it has grown. It’s become one of my favorite houseplants in no time at all. And it’s pretty easy to propagate one of these plants, too.

If you are new to plant care, I highly suggest that you purchase a Pilea plant. Though they can be expensive, I’ve found that they are relatively easy to care for. Learn how to grow them yourself with these easy Pilea care instructions. I love easy-to-grow houseplants.

Pilea Care Instructions

Pilea plants love bright, indirect light and will do best in a bright (but not overly sunny) spot in your home. Mine sit facing an eastern window and it seems to love it. Pilea plants are members of the succulent family, but placing plants in direct sun can cause the delicate leaves to scorch. Pilea plants are EXTREMELY sensitive to the sunlight, so the plant will need to be rotated every 2-3 days. I didn’t do this for the first few months, and now I have a slightly lopsided Pilea, oh well.

Watering A Pilea

As I mentioned before, Pilea plants are a member of the succulent family. So they are very sensitive to overwatering. Water only when the soil has completely dried out and when the leaves begin to droop slightly.

What’s best about Pilea is that unlike other houseplants, they do not require any kind of additional humidity. Additionally, Pilea plants will need to be fertilized twice yearly.

Other Pilea Care Tips

Houseplant owners should note that all parts of the Pilea plant are non-toxic. These are great for pet owners.
